The Next-big thing – Nextbit Robin

Nextbit Robin

Recently we got to attend the Nextbit Robin in the Nextbit Meetup which was organised by fonearena. During the we got to use one of the test device which was given to us by the nextbit team to explore what the device has to offer. Also during the meetup we had a discussion about the device from the aesthetics to symmetry.

Camera and Battery

The phone is really smooth and Runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is quite faster than its predecessors also the Phone’s battery lasts almost a day with an average screen on time of around 3 hours. The Front facing dual speakers have great sound quality and Looks really great as they are positioned in the center on top and bottom so when you hold the phone in landscape mode you can experience a great sound quality.
Camera of the phone is really great as the handsets which we were given were already updated to latest version which had the camera improvements already done. So there is no shutter lag in latest updated.

Cloud Storage

The phone cloud feature is really impressive as it does backups the apk only and not the user data so there’s no question of security issues. Also the Phone comes with bundled 100Gb cloud space. For now the Robin is able to back up only apk and images from the phone which have not been used for a while and you have all the access to bring them back anytime you want them just WiFi or data is needed. Now the smart feature is that Robin would only backup when you are connected to WiFi or when you are connected to wi-fi  and charger these settings can changed as per users wish. Nextbit is also working on to make cloud backups for videos.
The Apk’s that  are uploaded are grayed-out and are present in the phone’s home screen.

Nextbit OS

Nextbit OS is based on stock android with minimal changes to it. Launcher is somewhat similar to Miui wherein the apps are directly present on the home-screen and not in some-kind of app drawer however you can load third-party launcher to get app drawer but again it will come at a price like if you install third-party launcher you would lose the functionality of status transparency and some animations wont work as they work with stock launcher and best thing is that installing third-party launcher wont effect the Cloud backup anyway.

Surprise Announcement

We were amazed when we got to know that Nextbit supports Rooting Officially and has plans to develop custom roms for the device also the device warranty won’t be void even if you root. Nextbit supports developers and soon would be coming up with procedure to unlock the boot loader officially without any effect on warranty.

It Seems Nextbit has really promising plans to grab market share it would be really exciting to see how this goes on well for users in India need to wait until the Nextbit comes here. Until then Keep coming here we would keep updating this place as and when we get update about the status of Nextbit sales in India.
