Asus Zenfone 3 Max (ZC520TL) Review: Just Another Big Battery Device

Asus is bringing out new models in its zenfone 3 series and it’s very confusing for people to understand the difference between the models. The device in zenfone 3 series looks almost same with few changes in body and looks. We expected our review model to be Asus Zenfone 3 Max (ZC553KL) but when we opened the ‘magic box’ it was Asus Zenfone 3 Max (ZC520TL). There are two variants available in Zenfone 3 Max series the one which I am reviewing is 5.2″ Asus Zenfone 3 max and Other is 5.5″.

Design

Asus has used metal in its all Zenfone 3 series and it goes same with the Zenfone 3 Max as well. The phone houses a 5.2″ screen with 2.5D contoured Gorilla Glass 3 at the front of the device and a bezel ratio of 75% screen to the body. The Rear camera is present on top of the back side with fingerprint scanner module just below. besides the camera, there’s single tone led flash present on the back. Speaker grill is also present on the bottom of the backside along with the Asus branding. The volume rockers and power button are present on the right side as most of the phones have. On the front, there is 5MP selfie camera module present along with proximity sensor. One of the thing which was annoying was there are no physical keys present on the device and there is an on-screen button instead. The Bottom space is used for Asus branding. Overall the phone looks decent and gives a premium kind of feel. The phone does have a 3.5mm audio out port so you can enjoy audio with your favorite headsets.

Display

The Asus Zenfone 3 Max comes with 5.2″ FHD with a resolution of 1920x1080p and delivers a pixel density of 401ppi. The display is great when it comes to viewing multimedia content on it. The only thing which creates a difference is the contrast ratio which is a bit low than Amoled Display. The brightness of the phone is more than enough for visibility in complete sunlight.

Performance

The Asus zenfone 3 Max series is designed for the people who want max battery for the day. The huge battery on the device helps it last for more than a day.  At the heart of the phone, there is Snapdragon 430 SoC powered by 3GB of Ram. Although the chip is not that powerful when compared to 650 but Asus has done great software optimizations and tweaks to make the phone handle graphic intensive games easily and run them smoothly. While playing for some time the phone tends to get heated but that’s quite normal when due to processes running in the background. The phone doesn’t disappoint when it comes to performance. The Phone runs android Marshmellow 6.0 with Zen UI running on top of it. The phone’s camera performs great and excellent. Asus has offered like always various modes in the camera app. The rear 13MP and front camera come at 8MP. The selfies are sure to impress you. The picture quality and processing have improved a lot in the zenfone 3 series and Asus Zenfone 3 Max is not an exception. The sound output from the speaker is clear and loud. The speaker grill being on the back doesn’t block the audio when you watch movies or play games. the rear speaker grill helps in surround audio.

Battery

Asus Zenfone 3 Max is known for its battery. The phone comes with a 4100Mah battery and not 5000mah which were present in Asus Zenfone 2 max but that doesn’t matter as the aesthetics of the phone has improved a lot when compared to zenfone 2 max. the phone has become a lot thinner and feel of the phone looks quite good. When we tested the device, it was able to survive more than a day with maximum usage and still some juice left. The Asus ZenFone UI is optimized to save battery when the phone is in sleep mode. The usage included few calls, browsing (4G), music and Gaming for about an hour.

Pricing and Availability

sus ZenFone 3 Max is loaded with Max Battery, no wonder why the phone has become quite a topic in the market. The phone is priced at Rs.12999/-. and is available through Flipkart and snapdeal.

Summary

Asus Zenfone 3 Max is a great device but the specs offered at the price tag of Rs.12999 are bit low. The phone is great for those who want a balance between power and performance. The Price tag it comes for has great competition from Redmi Note 3 and Redmi Note 4. The only thing which keeps this a favorable option for buyers is the Asus Brand Name. The device is great for all day battery lovers. This phone is just perfect for those who want a long battery device with a performance alongside.
