Best Phones Under ₹10,000 You Can Buy in India December 2017

There has been a lot of buzz about flagship killer phone these days, every brand has its own “claimed”  flagship killer. Due to the craze created by these brands, people are started to desire more for such high-end devices. But the question is do we really need such premium phones? Are they so much more useful for us to justify its price tag?

These days many mid-range devices, as well as strict budget devices offer a great value for money.

So why spend so much on “killers”  when a budget phone can satisfy your needs. And rather than buying such high-end phones you can invest in those companies instead, with the money you saved 😉

This is the segment of phones that has the most varied range of devices as many brands try to target this segment and bombard it with lots of different models and pricing them very competitively. Mostly this segment was targeted by Chinese brands as a consumer doesn’t look at a brand name at this price point rather looks for a value for money the product provides, however major brands like Motorola, Samsung, Nokia have also been targeting this segment.

So let us help you clear your confusion about which phone you need from this segment. Following is the list of top Top five smartphones under  10,000/-INR in India:

  1. Redmi note 4 (INR 9999/-)

This is one of the most selling smartphones in Indian market (ofc after legendary Nokia 3310), and it is for a reason.

Design  – [5.5 inch 1080p, metal uni body] Slim, aluminum body, 2.5d curved glass makes it look like a premium phone and feels good to hold. Although it might be hard to install an aftermarket tempered glass on 2.5d curved glass. The display is a 1080p IPS LCD which provides good brightness, good colors, and sharpness.

Performance – [Snapdragon 625, 3gb ram, 32 GB rom] This is the USP of this device, redmi note 4 is supercharged with snapdragon 625 chipset which is a 2.0GHZ octa-core processor and Adreno 506   GPU, which makes this little beast handle high-end games smoothly. Also, it has 3gb ram for more multitasking and 32 GB rom for storage. It can even put some mid-range devices to a shame in terms of raw performance.

Camera –[13MP f/2.0 rear, 5MP f/2.0 front]In terms of rear camera quality it provides decent pictures in daylight, but there are visible noise and loss in picture quality during night time. The rear camera has PDAF, dual led flash and can record up to 1080p @30fps and  720@120fps. The front-facing 5 MP provides good selfies and provides beauty mode and filters. Overall redmi note 4 has an average camera fair enough for its price point.

Battery – although with a larger display and strong processor Redmi note 4 packs a 4100 mah battery, which can last for about a whole day with heavy usage and for about even 1.5 – 2 days with moderate to light usage.

Others– Redmi note 4 doesn’t skip on any sensors Fingerprint (rear-mounted), accelerometer, gyro, proximity, compass you name it!

The speaker quality is average nothing to boast about. Comes with a hybrid dual sim, and comes with loaded miui 9.

All these features make Redmi note 4 the all-round performer (Irfan Pathan of this lot) and best suited for gamers and power users alike.

  1. Lenovo z2 plus (INR 9799/-)

Lenovo has launched this phone on 22 September 2016 at the price of INR 17,999/-, although this device is pretty old and sports 5.0-inch display it has snapdragon 820 inside and is available in 3gb/32gb & 4gb/64gb ram/rom storage. You can get a 3gb/32gb version for about 9799/- and 4gb/64 for about 10,299/- from amazon.com, I would suggest buying the later if this is the device you choose, as there is no major price difference. Lenovo z2 plus has the most powerful chipset of all the phones under 10k. snapdragon 820 was the flagship processor of 2016 from snapdragon and was available in high-end devices, although the processor is old still it maintains a respectable rank among top mobile processors. And the 5.0-inch form factor can be attractive to some users who prefer compact phones.

THE BAD (cons):

  • poor low light camera performance
  • bulky (149 grams)
  • low sound output

  1. Micromax canvas infinity (8,999/-)

The largest Indian mobile manufacturer, Micromax is a major player in the budget segment., with its successful canvas line up. But due to ever-increasing competition, there was a decrease in sales of Micromax. Micromax has recently launched its new smartphone canvas infinity with 18:9 display. It is the best affordable smartphones to have 18:9 ratio display which gives it a more premium look. Although it has a quad-core processor, its USP of 18:9 ratio screen makes it a strong completion of its rivals.

  • DESIGN –  8/10
  • CAMERA – 7/10
  • PERFORMANCE – 6/10
  • BATTERY – 7/10
  • VALUE FOR MONEY – 7/10

  1. Moto g5 (9,999/-)

Moto g series line up is the most successful line up for the brand. But do you know what is the definition of Insanity “doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” The moto g5 doesn’t see any significant physical changes to its predecessor as well as no major hardware upgrade.

However, under 10k budget, you can get a branded smartphone which is well built and has a brand charisma. Moto g5 has 1080p display which also has good visibility in direct sunlight, fingerprint sensor works well on this device. The device gets an octa-core Snapdragon 430 processor, however, due to stock Android experience the performance on this device is pretty decent and you can always rely on Motorola for timely Android updates. The camera of moto g5 is the better than most of the smartphones in this price segment it has 13 MP rear camera and 5 MP wide-angle front-facing camera. The battery on this device is 2800 mah Li-ion which is less compared to other devices but it provides a quick charging, so you can get hours of power in minutes.

You get a 3gb ram which provides great multitasking but the storage capacity of this version is just 16 GB.

Another unique feature of moto g5 is they have made the phone splash repellent, while moto g3 had an IPX7 rating but moto g5 doesn’t get any IP rating.

  1. Redmi y1 (8999/-)

This can be another successful phone from Xiaomi. This phone is very similar to the redmi 4, both have the same processor which is Snapdragon 435 and are available in 3gb/32gb and 4gb/64gb varients.

There are hardly few changes in the body design between redmi 4 and redmi y1.

The major difference is in the display which is a 5.5-inch display on y1 but still has a screen resolution of 720p which reduces the PPI density to 236 which reduces the sharpness of the display but the screen quality is pretty much acceptable.

The other difference is it gets a 16MP front-facing camera instead of a 5MP camera on redmi 4. While the battery is reduced by 25% and a larger screen means, even more, battery drain.

This is a device suited best for selfie addicts and this phone can provide decent performance as well.

OTHER MENTIONS

Samsung ON7 (7990/-)- although the hardware of this device is a very low end, it is a good option for people who want the Samsung brand name. the phone is well built and has decent camera performance. But remember Samsung skips sensors like gyro, compass, fingerprint and it also lacks auto brightness option, it has an outdoor feature for it though.

Redmi 4 (6999/-) – for such low price tag this phone offers great features and powers a 4100 mah battery which gives good battery performance on this 5.0-inch 720p display.

So these are the top 5 smartphones you should look into if you are on a tight budget or if you are looking for a secondary device.
