Dell Wyse 5070: One Thin Client That Meets All Your Needs

Dell, one of the leading brands in PCs, laptops, and peripherals, has recently launched Thin Client WYSE 5070 globally and in India. The new Wyse 5070 Thin Client is a step ahead in the thin client computing and virtualization. As the company’s most versatile and scalable thin client platform, it enables organizations to select just the right configuration based on their employees’ needs. Further, leveraging the virtualization technology present in Wyse 5070, it would be easier for organizations to adopt it and scale up.

The Dell Wyse 5070 comes with True 4K and other options that enable the IT department to deploy and update the client based on their employees’ request and usage. Surprisingly, the thin client comes pre-configured with 1600 factory settings. This versatility allows customers to procure the right solution for their workforce without over-equipping or overspending. Customers can choose just the right core components from processor, graphics, and memory options, and match them with specialized options with support for up to six displays. From a single platform, the 5070 can scale to support task workers, knowledge workers, and even high-end, workstation-level use cases.

The following are some of its benefits:

  • Software and application versatility: Organizations can install the 5070 in a Citrix, Microsoft or VMware virtual workspace environment with the choice of Dell’s own Wyse ThinOS or ThinLinux operating systems or Windows 10 IoT Enterprise. It also supports commonly-used, web-based productivity applications, such as Office365 and Google Docs.
  • Forward-looking features: The Wyse 5070 is packed with features for today and tomorrow’s office environments, including support for true 4K graphics (4K resolution on multiple monitors at 60Hz) for multimedia and graphics-intensive applications. The range of connectivity options includes multiple integrated DisplayPorts, USB 3.1 Type C and wired and wireless connectivity. Physically compact, the 5070 features 21 ports and slots for remarkable expandability.
  • High-end performance at a mid-range price: Dell is setting a new standard for price/performance. The 5070 represents a step function in performance while its price remains comparable to its predecessors. Further, it offers greater performance and more options at a better price than its primary competitors.
  • To further ease the management and monitoring the Thin Client, Dell has Wyse Management Suite which can be hosted with the organization’s network or at the cloud, a combination of both can also be done. The management suite is an advanced thin client management solution that lets organizations centrally configure, monitor, manage, and optimize their Wyse thin clients. The management suite comes with an easy to use interface to get you started with the new Wyse 5070.]
  • The Wyse 5070 family comes in four variants in order to suit a wider array of budgets. The lower-end models come with Celeron SoCs, and the higher-end ones come with Pentium cores. All the new Wyse 5070 variants will be shipping with either Windows IoT Enterprise 10, ThinOS or Linux operating systems.
  • The entry-level Celeron 2K variant, which will be powered by the Celeron N4000dual-core SoCs clocked at 1.1 GHz and will feature 4 GB DDR4-2560 RAM plus 32 GB of eMMC storage for the WIE 10 option, while the ThinOS/TLinux gets only 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of eMMC storage. This variant only supports two 1080p outputs.
  • The Celeron 4K, Pentium 4K, and Extended Pentium variants, which come with similar features except for the fact that the Pentium ones support two 4K outputs plus one 1080p out, while the Celeron 4K supports just the two 4K outs. The Celeron 4K is powered by the Celeron J4105 quad-core SoC clocked at 1.5 GHz, whereas the Pentium 4K comes with a Pentium Silver N5000 quad-core processor clocked at 1.1 GHz, and the Extended Pentium model gets a Pentium Silver J5005 chip running at 1.5 GHz. These three variants integrate up to 8 GB of DDR4 memory plus 32 GB SSD storage for WIE 10 OSs, and only up to 4 GB RAM plus 16 GB eMMC storage for ThinOS/TLinux. Only the Pentium variants get rear audio connectors.

The list of common features across all variants includes:
•    1 Gb connector with integrated NIC
•    10 USB-A 3.0 connectors (Front x4, Rear x4, Internal Pins x2) plus one USB-C 3.1 in front
•    Intrusion detection, Kensington Lock, and TPM 2.0 security features

The Extended Pentium model gets a 130 W PSU and integrates legacy ports like 2 serials, 1 parallel and a PCIe 4x. All the others get only 1 serial and sport a 65 W PSU.

Although Dell Wyse 5070 Thin client is thin in size, it doesn’t compromise on the ports and connectivity options. It has all the important ports and connectors that anyone can ask for. The new unit is fitted with 21 separate ports, and along with all the expected ports (such as USB Type-C, DisplayPort, and Ethernet), the 5070 also features support for the legacy ports, which are still widely used within organizations, such as serial and parallel ports.

Dell also allows customers to further customize the new Wyse 570 PCs with several options like up to 8 GB RAM for ThinOS/TLinux OSs, up to 256 GB SSDs and Smart Card readers for Celeron 4K models and up, a second Gbe jack plus wireless connections, a VGA port, 90 W PSUs, and discrete AMD GPUs for the Extended Pentium variant.
