MobiiStar has recently entered Indian Market with New budget phones CQ and XQ Dual in India. The Brand is leading manufacturer in Vietnam and has launched its product in India to capture and offer varied experience to users than that of Chinese. We have received the XQ Dual from the brand for review and here’s our take on this budget-friendly device.

XQ Dual: Design, Display, and Hardware

The design of the phone is not something that may impress you, with the current phones coming with full view display MobiiStar has a design that resembles phones that have been launched in past. There is huge chin at the bottom and at the top for microphone and selfie flash which is visible gives at a bad look. The device has a Metal body which makes it feel durable rest the design is very common and the phone may get lost in budget devices that are already leading in the market.

The phone has dual front camera 13MP + 9MP which offers wide-angle selfies (Good for group selfies) and comes with selfie flash which helps you in taking selfies even in low light conditions. The rear camera is of 13MP which helps you taking decent photos from the phone. The phone’s camera doesn’t disappoint you.

The volume rockers on the left and power button along with sim card holder on the right side. The keys are easy to reach and well accessible. The speaker grill, Micro USB, and Microphone are crammed at the bottom. Fortunately, the phone has 3.5MM jack and it is present at the top.

The smartphone has a 5.5 in Full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels. The display is bright, offers good color output and the sunlight legibility is good even in bright outdoor. The screen also has Asahi DragonTrail toughness glass protection that protects it from scratches.

The phone comes equipped with Snapdragon 430 clocked at 1.3 GHz coupled with 3GB of  RAM, the performance of the phone most of the time is great and snappy. The interface of the phone is somewhat similar to the Chinese manufacturer we see in the market. The GPU also offers good gaming performance in most games. We were able to play games like Asphalt and PUB G without any issues.

The fingerprint scanner of the XQ Dual is not that fast but recognizes the fingerprint most of the times and sometimes it faces difficulty in recognizing the fingerprint. The fingerprint module is well accessible and it’s easy to use. Unfortunately, it doesn’t allow you to access applications through dedicating fingers for quick access. The Loudspeaker is loud enough and due to its presence on the bottom, the audio doesn’t get muffled due to the placement. While gaming its pure fun on this device.

Performance

The smartphone handles day to day tasks with ease. The UI is pretty smooth with almost no lags whatsoever. Thanks to the 3 GB of RAM, the multitasking is decent. We also tested the smartphone with some casual games and graphics-intensive titles. It handled casual games without any issues. But, in games like Asphalt 8, Modern Combat 5 we noticed a slight lag in the gameplay. Overall, the performance was smooth and good. We will talk about the software in the coming lines. The phone is powered by slightly dated processor Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor clocked at 1.40 GHz. The storage is expandable via Micro SD card.

Software

XQ Dual doesn’t offer stock android experience. It has been installed with customized Android with a custom user interface to offer ease of access and other customization that you can do. Mobiistar has added some nifty features like Intelligent Assitant, Anti Theft and more. The built-in Anti-theft feature requires you to log in via your Google/Facebook account to store and sync data. The software experience on this phone could be refined and need more touch-up. The phone has some problems like you can’t Swipe away the notification sometimes and this doesn’t happen always but it had to be mentioned.

Connectivity

The XQ Dual has all the connectivity which a budget phone should offer. It has VoLTE and Bluetooth connectivity. It has 4G support with support of 4G VoLTE for Reliance Jio. Both the SIMs support 4G, but you can enable 4G only in one SIM at a time, while the other goes to 3G. You can set the default SIM for a voice call, messaging or data connection. It has Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS and USB OTG support.

Since this is a dual SIM phone you get the option to call or send SMS from either SIMs. Calls were clear and we did not face any call drops, but the earpiece quality is not the best if you are in a noisy environment.

Battery

The phone has 3000mAh Battery capacity which lasts for almost a day on heavy usage but with casual usage, it lasts for more than a day. The charging is also fast taking almost about an hour and a half to completely charge.
