Skagen Falster 2 Initial Impressions: Minimalist Design Coupled with WearOS

Skagen, A brand under fossil group launched the Skagen 2 in India recently. Skagen watches are always talked about because of their minimalistic design. The brand recently hooked me with Skagen Falster 2 to try it at my own convenience. I was given the rose gold variant to try and test. The watch feels premium and feels great on the hand.

Skagen Falster 2:Design & Build

Skagen has always favored Minimalist design and lightweight watches but this isn’t the lightest watch available right now but does look great. The 40mm dial looks just apt and would look great fit for all. The crown on the watch acts as a back button as well opens up the menu. The buttons next to the crown are configurable to quickly launch the application of your choice. By default, the lower one is configured to Google Fit and Upper one with media control.

The crown also rotates and helps you in navigating through different settings and content on the smartwatch. The Falster 2 also comes with a 3ATM water resistance rating, which means you’ll be fine wearing it in the pool.

The watch comes with Magnetic mesh strap and fits perfectly on your wrist, at first I was little worried about the magnetic hold but trust its perfect and holds the watch intact throughout the day without moving an Inch. The watch comes in different colors – Black, Grey, and Rose Gold.

Although the watch is masculine it looks more or less the same to me. The design starts taking on you. At first, I was thinking to try Black color but ended up with rose gold just because of the color and finish. In fact, I have started to love the watch just because of the looks.

Skagen Falster 2: Display

The most important thing in the smartwatch after the design is the display and after a day of usage here’s what I feel about it. The Skagen Falster 2 is powered by 1.91 inches circular OLED Display. It’s worth noting the bezels on the watch but the default watch faces help you mask the bezels with black color.

The default watch faces available on the watch are simple, minimal looking yet elegant. I liked the default watch face which you can see in the pictures. Watch faces are not limited to default ones and you can download watch face of your liking from Playstore. The always on display feature can be found in display settings of the watch but the battery backup would be affected.

Skagen Falster 2: Specifications

Skagen Falster 2 is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 which is about 2 Years old processor and not the latest one on the watch. I would have loved the watch having Snapdragon Wear3100.

Being said that, with Android 8.0 and wear OS 2.2 I haven’t noticed any lags or stutter on the watch. The operations were smooth and easy. At Initial boot, I had received some system updates which I installed to get the latest wear os. By default, the watch comes with Wear OS 1.3 software.

Navigating and browsing through Wearos is fun and exciting. The watch is snappy and using apps like Google Maps or uber didn’t made it any slower. I haven’t had any issues whatsoever. The watch is optimised to great accuracy and it showed me Time and notification every time I raise my wrist. Anyways as its just my initial impression about the watch with just some days of usage, I will hold for my detailed review.

The Falster comes with a lot of features which were missing in its predecessor. The watch now comes with Heart Rate Monitor, GPS, and NFC. I was informed that Google Pay is integrated directly in the watch itself for quick payments. With the introduction of GPS in the watch, you can go out running without having to carry your Phone and also you can track metrics like distance, Pace and heartbeats during activity. The watch comes with Google’s new and refreshed Google Fit application which has improved a lot over the years.

The watch comes with a 300mAh battery. Skagen claims it to last around 2 days. Since I haven’t used this watch to its full extent so won’t be able to comment on it but with Initial usage, I am able to get through a day without battery saver. All the features were turned on during my usage to get the fair idea of batter. 2 days claim is bit ambitious and I doubt that watch would be able to deliver that much juice especially with the Always-On display and continuous heart-rate monitoring.

Skagen Falster 2 First Hand Impressions: Design takes over

Skagen watches are known for the designs and Falster 2 is no different. The watch designs influence you. The watch performs really well and with the little time I spent with the watch, I must say, the watch is going to be great in terms of usage and utility. Is this watch really worth spending 20k?. Well, there is a lot of option in the market but the Wear os experience and design are not found together. Skagen offers both in one product to you. Wear OS not yet stable yet and there aren’t a lot of applications available yet on the platform. I would suggest you to wait for the full review, wherein I would explain in detail about the experience with the Skagen Falster 2.

In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding the Smartwatch, then be sure to drop them in the comments section down below. I’d love to take a look at them and try answering them in my full review.
